Building Back Better

In BC, we do the same thing over again hoping for different results.

While in the UK the modern tram or light rail or supertram is now seen as one of the proven remedies for urban congestion.

One must remember that the tram was thought to be the “flavor of the month” in Europe, with mostly heritage operations in the UK, France and Germany. It was common thought that after unification there would only be a handful of trams left in Germany by the early 2000’s.

The dedicated tramways and low floor cars and a revolutionary thinking that public transit should be easy to use and take the transit rider to where he/she would like to go, completely changed transportation thinking. The modern tramway revolution is still evolving with Zweisystems, light rail cars and the reopening of derelict or abandoned lines is going apace.

We do not always get it right on our side of the pond and the politicians love of subways is still problematic, but we still shake our heads has events in your city.

Ah, yes there was a very good letter in the October issue Tramways and Urban Transit explaining the situation in Vancouver, very sad indeed.

There is now talk of relaying the tramway on top of the new subway in Karlsruhe as the city riders want their tram on the pavement in fresh air!

We hope the UK goes the way of France, but I am afraid Brexit and all the problems that entails will hamper expansion of tramways in the UK.

Zwei instead of a picture, I’m assuming is a Tram or LRV of some type, I’m getting a blank picture and a message that says the connection was reset?

Zwei replies: It is an updated version of our platform and it seems there still seems to be a few bugs like the featured photo. Up to now it is hit or miss. I am working on it.

Oh wow, it’s a video, my internet at home really doesn’t like it and still gives the connection lost message but it works fine in this coffee shop.
