BC Liberal Responses to Fraser Valley Transit Survey
In contrast to the Liberals, all NDP candidates responded positively to the survey, with top contenderAi??John HorganAi??going as far as explicitly stating his support for Light Rail as far east as Abbotsford and Chilliwack:
ai???I support an at-grade light rail system through Surrey and Langley, eventually reachingAi??Abbotsford and even Chilliwack.”Ai??-John Horgan

The fact none of the Liberal leadership candidates has even bothered to reply to the Rail for the Valley Questionnaire speaks volumes in and of itself. Say no more. To the Liberals, their “solution” was a twinning of the Port Mann Bridge to 10 lanes and the soon to follow destruction of the existing, still not reached its lifespan, bridge. Their 20th century solution for a 21st century issue was to build for the single-occupant vehicle for the next 50 years south of the Fraser, case closed. The day that decision was made and now carried out, was a dark day in this region. It is too late to go back, but what a new NDP government can and must do is begin full implementation of light-rail transit for all future transportation creation and expansion now south of this fiasco. Once this has been accomplished, we can look forward to the day when at least half of those 10 lanes on the Port Mann are converted to rail travel in tandem with this conversion.
All of the NDP responses are solid, but I think John Horgan stands out as understanding the issues the best. You can see that in his answers to Q4 and Q5.
