ai???What a switch problem does, it controls the tracks, so it communicates the tracks of the train to the control system at the SkyTrain control room,ai??? Jiana Ling with TransLink explains.
Trains on the Expo and Millennium Lines were stopping for five minutes at each station.
Service was restored just after 7 p.m.

A comment with interesting info.
This morning too at 8:30 train with a door problem. Everyone had to get off at 29th Avenue. System all backed up right at peak time. Totally unacceptable system problems.
Because I felt like it.

Part of the problem was a signal switch on the Steel Bridge (a lift span) that caused much of the problems, which was/is far more complex that SkyTrain. Aging infrastructure needs maintenance, but unlike Vancouver, when there is a problem, LRT can maintain a semblance of a service, Skytrain just stops.
In Portland, people will be held responsible and replaced for the bad transit. I’ve worked most of my life in the USA and Americans don’t put up with crap.
In Vancouver, TransLink gets away with much worse transit service than in Portland and is given more money to solve self inflicted chaos. When is someone at TransLink going to get fired for the operation of express 99 B-Lines to UBC until 2:30 am on holidays and during off peak hours in general while regular buses run virtually empty to UBC?
Except when it doesn’t maintain a semblance of service.

Yes I realize it is the streetcar, not LRT.
Zweisystem replies: Streetcars are LRT.
Another day, another sky train glitch…

This is due to TransLink simultaneously operating and upgrading the Millennium Line to accommodate the Evergreen Line being connected to the Millennium Line. TransLink must shut down the Millennium Line to integrate the Evergreen Line “safely”.
Expect a major disaster, over the next two years – meanwhile the buffoons at TransLink continue to put riders at risk.
