An interesting video on Karlsruhe’s tram system, including their famous TramTrain, which can operate as a streetcar, a light railway or a commuter train! It’s worth a watch.

The debate has moved to the point where many have csniodered the high expenses of a bored SkyTrain tunnel all the way to UBC (the only option currently supported by the City of Vancouver) or the potential that a SkyTrain extension would only be funded to Arbutus (halfway) as a justification to start advocating for LRT as an option that would create a full east-west non-stop option to UBC with somewhat improved capacity, despite the tradeoffs that would make such a system inferior and infeasible.
